Types of Characters

Main Characters

The main characters are at the heart of the narrative. Varying in number from one to a dozen by chapters, they appear in most of the acts and play a major role in the progression of the story.

They usually appear in minimum :

  • Four acts in each main series chapter.
  • Six acts in one-shots.

i.e. Nuro Kiwishii in The Regiment, Chika Ciname in First Investigation, etc...

Recurring Characters

The recurring characters are here to complement the main cast. Some play bigger roles than others and generally stay in their own arc, rarely interfering with others.

They usually appear in minimum :

  • Two acts in each main series chapter.
  • Three acts in one-shots.

i.e. Chen Liu in The Regiment, Rembe Uhden in First Investigation, etc...

Minor Characters

The minor characters appear only rarely and usually do not have a narrative arc. The exceptions to this rule are often characters who are intended to become recurring characters in the future.

They usually appear in maximum :

  • Two acts in each main series chapter.
  • Three acts in one-shots.

i.e. Kate Tenson in The Regiment, Russo Curtis in First Investigation, etc...

Special Guest Characters

Special guest characters can also be considered as recurring or minor characters. They generally fall into one of these categories :

  • A main character in the story who barely appears in this chapter.
  • A main character from another adjacent story who only makes a cameo appearance.
